In this two-minute read, we share some simple ideas to improve your garden
When it comes to outside space, size doesn’t matter – it’s what you do with it that counts. According to a recent survey, gardens took the top spot on wish lists for both buyers and renters (source: Rightmove). Here are some tips for making the most of your outside space.
Light it up
Twinkling fairy lights can make even the most modest of spaces look magical. But to really put your garden in the spotlight, why not add some statement pendants or standing lamps for a warm glow. Church-style candles in glass hurricane vases are fantastic for atmospheric lighting – and great value, too.
Mirror, mirror on the wall
A relatively new concept, but one which is gaining momentum, is the idea of hanging mirrors in small courtyard-style gardens. Subtly creating a sense of space, mirrors can add a stylish element to your chosen theme – use driftwood frames for a casual beach style or ornate vintage enamel for shabby chic.
Walls without limits
Think of walls and fences as a blank canvas. If painting a mural is beyond your artistic capabilities, have fun with stencils to create some stunning wall art. Attach colourful plants to a wall to make a ‘living’ wall and at the same time, you’ll save valuable floor space for patio furniture. Fences can be used to train sprawling vine-like plants and flowers. Liven up hedges by adorning them with strings of pretty solar lights using struts within the branches.
The grass CAN always be greener
If you’re lusting after a luscious lawn but your shady garden means that it’s more moss than meadow, consider whether artificial grass or decking might be a better option. Synthetic grass has come a long way since the early luminous green options.
